Government's U-turn: Now after Ahmedabad, shops in Surat, Baroda and Rajkot will be closed except for essential items. Chief Minister's Secretary Ashwini Kumar announced

Municipal commissioners and district collectors in four metros of the state - Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot - have consulted with the state government in consultation with local traders. In view of the growing Corona virus, the Municipal Commissioners and Collectors of these metros have jointly decided that shops and businesses in these four metros will not be allowed to operate till May 3 and will be kept closed.

Only shops of essentials and necessities that were earlier open during the lockdown will be allowed to continue in these metros. Other areas-districts in the state on Sunday. Businesses are allowed to start from April 26.
